Interventricular communication (CIV) is a condition in which the wall that separates the right ventricle from the left, the interventricular septum, is not completely closed. This malformation allows oxygenated blood and non-oxygenated blood to mix. When there is atrial septal defect (CIA), the septum separating the auricles (the atrial septum) is not completely closed, allowing left oxygenated blood to pass to the non-oxygenated side.
